JAMELLE BLUNT

My name is Jamelle Blunt. I am a native of Kansas City, Kansas where I attended Sumner Academy High School. After high school, I had a few offers to play college basketball, but I decided to just attend school. I attended Kansas State University for a little more than 3 years, but after some bad decisions and being on the verge of flunking out of college, I decided to get a normal job. I was working at Wal-Mart & K-Mart to help make ends meet when I was approached by a man that inquired about me coaching basketball. At the time, I didn’t really have any desire to coach, but I decided to give it a try. My first coaching gig was with an 8th Grade boys team with very low skill level. At first, I didn’t like it, but the relationships that I developed with the kids helped transform me. I felt as if God had shown me my true calling. God used the coaching experience to wake me up to the fact that God had a greater plan for my life and one that could impact young lives for Him. I decided to go back to college to finish my degree in Secondary Education. This time around, I was married with two kids and my wife pregnant with our 3rd. I graduated in 2021 from Washburn University. God has taught me to believe and trust more in Him more than myself (Proverbs 3:5-6). God has also taught me to be Humble and Patient as I go through my coaching journey. I was first introduced to LTD in the Spring of 2022. Shortly after, I began coaching the LTD middle school boys. I have since joined LTD in a full time role overseeing the SELECT programming for higher level athletes ages 13-18. God has used LTD to impact my life in powerful ways. God has developed my own confidence and leadership abilities by being able to share more about Him with young men and women in the program. God continues to strengthen my faith through my experiences at LTD. I see my role as something that is not just to coach, but to mentor, develop and lead young people into a relationship with Jesus so they can discover God’s true purpose for their lives.
